The History of TLC
May 24, 2021Similar to many other origin stories of great successes, the start of TLC began with wholesome and genuine desires. The owner of TLC, Tami Crawford, works in the fast-paced, and sometimes overwhelming, world of corporate America. While being exceedingly successful in her job there, Tami is a full-time mother to her three daughters who are all just as busy as she is. Whether it be running the show at home and being an attentive mother, or working to support her family, Tami has her hands full at almost every hour of the day and finding even the smallest bit of free time where she can truly feel relaxed, almost feels like a delicacy. Tami, however, came to the realization that having moments of true serenity are not a luxury, but a definite necessity that everyone needs to remain healthy and productive in their life. Thus, after busy days at work, and even busier afternoons and evenings with the kids, Tami found comfort in her late nights after all the kids had gone to bed. With a quiet house and a glass of wine in hand, Tami would spend hours in the late of night, tucked away in her basement, doing her favorite things: listening to music and pouring candles. Every night Tami found a small pocket of “me time” that allowed for her to feel like herself, if only for a little. Life demands a lot, and if you’re not careful and not attentive to your own feelings and experiences, you can begin, as in Tami’s words, “feel like you’re burning a candle at both ends.” To refrain from getting burnt out, Tami created moments of “me time” for herself that naturally matured from an innocent hobby, to a desire to create a business out of something she loves and something she felt everyone deserves. From there, Tami’s late-night candle pouring turned into truly produced candles that she handed off to friends and family. Because of Tami’s genuine love for the process, it is no surprise that almost everyone came back inquiring about where they could buy these candles from her. And from there, as in Tami’s words, “the rest is history.” Tami officially founded TLC in 2018 from her home in Fishers, Indiana and continues to run the ever-growing business out her home still to this day, hand-crafting every scent, hand-pouring every candle, and individually packing every order. The creation of TLC came out of Tami’s own personal moments of “me time” that she began to cherish, and notice were imperative to her health and happiness; because of this, it only seemed natural that what gave her, her moments of “me time”, turned into a product to hopefully encourage others to indulge in moments of “me time” as well. With every light of a TLC candle, Tami hopes that you feel true contentment and happiness, if only for a little, because in this busy world, a little goes a long way.
