How to Get into the Holiday Spirit

How to Get into the Holiday Spirit

It’s official. This year has been one of the craziest to date. Thinking back to the beginning of 2020, it seems almost impossible that everything that has happened can even be contained into one year. It has been a twisty and endless road through a claustrophobia inducing tunnel. However, with the end of the year nearing, the light at the end of the tunnel is finally in sight. Even still, the year is not ending without one final jab; Covid numbers are spiking yet again and it seems as though we are all going to be stuck inside for the holiday season. Kind of a holiday spirit killer. Nevertheless, there are always ways to get into the holiday spirit – even with 2020 being the biggest Grinch there is.

Make a family night out of it! Sense everyone is now condemned back into their homes, the first step to getting you into the mood of the holidays is to make the area in which your holiday night extravaganza is taking place, become an elegant representation of all that the holidays encompass for your family. Whether it be a tree, lights, food, lighting of candles, or nothing at all, make sure to get your kids and spend the afternoon filling your home with everything that reminds you of the season and brings you joy. While you’re at it, yell for Alexa and start blaring all of the holiday music classics so you can spend the afternoon decking the halls and jingling your bells. While you’re dancing around the house, don’t forget about one of the most essential parts of the holidays, the smells. Grab one of your favorite woodsy scented candles and turn your home into a winter wonderland. And if you’ve ran out of candles, TLC has a vast array of elegant candles for the winter months that will add an effortless texture of sophistication and beauty with every light of a slow burning candle wick. Whether you light Gatherings, the perfectly earthy yet sweetly mixed aroma that reminisces of gatherings filled with hearty foods, or more traditional scents of cinnamon sweetness from Harvest, or the coolly crisp scent of pine from By The Fire, lighting a candle that makes your home smell like the best parts of winter will make your home not only look like a winter wonderland, but feel like one too.

After you and the kids have finished decorating the home, it is time to move into the kitchen for baking! Classic holiday baking comes with the territory of winter and you can’t make it to the end of the year without baking at least one batch of cookies. So, why not give your first batch a head start and begin the holiday season off with sugary sweets to get you in the mood. Whether it’s pre-made sugar cookies that can be turned into a decorating competition, or a home-made recipe, filling the home with warm and lulling scents of cookies bring a sense of comfort that only the holidays can replicate. Now, while the cookies are baking, it is the perfect time to start your holiday movie marathon. Throw on your favorite holiday movie, whip up some hot chocolate with marshmallows, and nestle in as you wait for your deliciously warm and gooey cookies to come out of the oven. If you want to spruce up the holiday night, go to the store earlier in the day and buy everyone a cozy pair of holiday pajamas or an ugly sweater to wear while you persevere through your holiday movie marathon. With this year’s holidays activities being stuck indoors, we all have the pass to act like kids during this winter season.

This year has been hectic. Therefore, taking some time to slow down during these winter months may be a little more difficult than it usually is. It may seem as though there is nothing to look forward to with the holidays seemingly interrupted, but there is always joy to be found (or smelled) within the air. So, to get yourself into the holiday mood and feeling festive for the coming winter months, plan a night where everyone in the house can feel like a kid again, even you.
